I'm actually not picky at all, an extended reading list if you already have one available would be perfectly fine. for sure -- there's lots of writing about the historical context of IQ in particular, as well as other measures of 'intelligence' (binet-simon, galton, etc); there's also a lot of writing that's on specific national and regional contexts. so i'm not pulling anything close to an exhaustive list here lol but these are some i found at least somewhat helpful. im presuming you're a french speaker but if not just disregard the ones in french lol

The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould -- this is probably the no. 1 recommendation you will receive in english on this topic. it's not necessarily crucial if you've read other historical literature critiquing psychometry, but if not, it's a very solid text and is intended to be an easy entry point into the topic, so it can be a convenient place to start if you just need a leading-off point

NAME TROUBLE: When Rammstein started making music together, they did so as a collective. When they released Herzeleid, they only put a headshot of each band member in the booklet - no names, or no reference to who played which instrument. They didn’t even give out their names when doing interviews. «Just write Rammstein», three of them told Zillo in 1995. «We don’t make a personality cult. Although our personal opinions are very different, we try to represent a unified opinion to the outside world.»

«We see ourselves as a solid unit», Paul Landers said to Rock Hard. «Actually, it wasn’t originally conceived that way, but if we sit in the rehearsal room for example, and only one band member is not present, nothing constructive happens, simple as that. We only function when all six people are there. So we’re not a band where everything is built around one leader, but more or less six doers, each of whom - depending on their stubbornness - contributes as much as possible.»

Because of that, they insisted on doing their Herzeleid press tour with all band members. «Right», Paul said, «However, it turns out that most of the time only three of us talk after all, which is why the others can stay at home in the future and not have to worry about that crap.»

Since then, Rammstein have been in the media countless times, though over the years, many journalists have had trouble with the names of the band members. Apparently it can also been difficult to distinguish between the different band members, and strangely enough, Christoph Schneider and Richard Kruspe seem to get mixed up quite frequently...

Day 9: Favorite Spatort side character

Question is: are we looking for a regular side character? Or just-around-for-one-or-two-episodes-character?

I'm gonna name two and give a few shoutouts at the end.

Henny Wenzel She is a smart pathologist giving me auntie-vibes. To Leo she seems caring, like an older relative (providing coffee and advice at any hour of the day. At work she's calm and willing to consider and explain alternative hypotheses.

What I find ambivalent though: she is the author's stand-in (talk about Gary Sue's) by Hendrik "Henny" Hölzmann, haha. So ofc she looks after her main characters and gets to support them. But I appreciate that he wrote his stand-in as a woman.

2. Manuela Baron If she ever were to reappear again, she'd make for a great villain. She seemed supportive towards the football gang. I feel like I saw a little 'I ship Esther and Jay-Lou' twinkle in her eye right there. It is also unclear if she actually hates Adam... or what she thinks about Adam and his 'inheritance'. She also genuinely seemed to want to help Andreas Schneider (the victim in Ep04) to see his daughter because Alina wouldn't let him.

I will say though, that, as villains, Roland and Boris delivered as well.

Till’s and Richard daughters are sisters so they’re often together. Till’s family already attended a few concerts this year too, pictures have been circulating but thankfully weren’t shared here! Haven’t seen anything about the other but I’m sure they at least attended one show ?

Not to be pedantic, but just because they are sisters, doesn't necessarily mean they are often together, not all families are like that 🌺 but yes, from one of the shows last year i remember a video of Khira-Li dancing through the crowd, being filmed from behind and as it turned out, Nele was behind her 🥰

This year, off the top of my head, i've seen Khira-Li with a friend at one of the first shows (maybe Dresden?) and she and Andrea were if i remember correctly in Copenhagen too. Maxime was definitely at the show in Frankfurt with friends of the family. Merlin I haven't seen, but he seems very private 🌺

For Paul's family, I'm sure i saw Arielle (Paul's wife) on one or two of the shows in the background of some fanvideos, but i don't remember which shows, but in general i think that if Minni is there, someone from Paul's family is there too 🥰 I think Lily was spotted at one of the first shows 'out and about', not completely sure. Emil and Pierro seem to be very busy with their own TwoColors tour, so I don't think they attended a show (yet).

Schneider's wife Ulrike i'm pretty sure was at one of the earlier shows, with personal friends (don't remember if the boys were there too)

Flake and Olli's families I haven't seen yet, but they are pretty private i think, and probably less recognizable for us.. (but generally, when Paul's family is there, i wouldn't be surprised Olli's family is there too).

Of Till i indeed saw a photo of his mother (looking amazing btw) and i'm sure others of his family in Germany too. Interestingly, i read a rumour that one of the guys travelling with Till for the past few shows wpis one of his sons, but i have to admit i don't know enough about Till's offspring to tell if that's true 🌺
